Finding new ways to resource a changing world.

About Us

Surya means ‘The Sun’ – the giver of life across our planet.

We want to bring this power to your organisation, shining a light on how to resource differently and help source and supply the best talent.

Our focus is to bring this light into the environment and energy sector to help reach challenging climate and carbon emissions targets.

Founded by passionate energy and renewables recruitment director Alka Graham in 2020, we are on a mission to help move the world’s energy consumption to environmentally-friendly methods.

As such, one of our main aims is to support our clients’ entry into emerging environment, offshore wind, onshore wind and solar markets, while also improving diversity within the sector.

Local Focus

Whether you’re in Aberdeen or Azerbaijan, we provide the best talent in a way that is accessible to local markets. Using our global network, we are connected to the big issues and get to know people on the ground who can make a difference in real time.

Headquartered in Bristol, we have close links to the South West network of renewable and environmental specialists, many of whom are internationally renowned for changing the face of the sustainable energy sector.

The Surya Talent Pipeline

Our dedication to the energy sector is second-to-none. We want to help and support the people who drive it to develop new ways of thinking and build new relationships to further a greener, sustainable world.

This is at the heart of our offer, which includes a full suite of recruitment services from retained and executive search and selection, contingent recruitment to national and international project management both in the permanent and contract space.

We also provide an advisory service to our candidates and clients to talk through and resolve recruitment and retention matters.

Our Connections

The Team

Alka Graham is the Founder and MD of Surya. Her vision is to resource the environment and energy sector for the future, creating pathways for talent to travel across different disciplines to develop a safer, more sustainable world for us all.

Starting out in recruitment 20 years ago she has carved a career specialising initially in health and public sector recruitment, working with James Caan at Hamilton Bradshaw, and going on to focus on environment and energy. She has only worked with sectors close to her heart and with complete passion and drive across the globe.

This includes some of the world’s leading energy organisations such as Orsted, the UK Atomic Energy Authority, central and local government energy divisions, SSE, and Innogy to name a few.

Alka said: “Increasingly environment, solar and wind companies are capitalising on a shift in mindset on how people want to consume energy. Our role in this is to support the energy companies in facilitating this, including taking candidates from the traditional oil and gas into the renewables space and be a part of this socially conscious movement.”

Leon Simpson is the Lead Resourcing Manager at Surya. Having worked with Alka over a number of years, he is passionate about supporting talent into the right role in the right way.

Leon began as a recruiter at Royal and Sun Alliance and went on to become a focused technical recruiter with some of the country’s biggest engineering companies and fell in love with eco-recruiting after visiting his first wind farm.

Leon said: “The people in the energy industry are interesting and the problems they are trying to solve are epic, so a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like work – rather finding out about the amazing things people are doing and matchmaking to actually get them done.

“It’s a massive privilege to be a part of this business and to be supporting the sector realise serious ambitions.”
